Brian Thompson claims he has been threatened, and she is focused on comforting their children
Paulette Thompson, the wife of UnitedHealth Group CEO Brian Thompson, revealed her husband had been threatened prior to being fatally shot outside a Midtown Manhattan hotel.
Speaking to NBC News, Paulette said the NYPD informed her that the attack was premeditated.
“There were some threats, maybe related to a lack of coverage? I’m unclear on the specifics,” she said. “He did mention people had been threatening him.”
Brian Thompson reportedly did not change his travel plans despite the threats.
“I’m just trying to process everything and comfort my children right now,” Paulette told NBC News.
On the morning of the tragedy, police responded to a 6:40 a.m. call outside the New York Hilton Midtown on Sixth Avenue. Officers found Thompson, 50, with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to the hospital but did not survive.
The masked suspect fled north on an electric Citibike, and the NYPD is still investigating.
Thompson joined UnitedHealth Group in 2004 and served as UnitedHealthcare’s CEO.
In a statement, the company expressed their grief: “We are heartbroken over the loss of Brian Thompson. He was a valued leader and a cherished friend. Our thoughts are with his family as we cooperate with law enforcement during this difficult time.”
